My voice cracked a bit when I saw our truck drivers, jeepney drivers — both traditional and modern — and tricycle drivers.

Because behind every vehicle is a 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘰 driver who spends 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 on the road — bringing people home, delivering goods to our communities and helping keep our country moving.

Honored to be part of 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙖’𝙨 𝟲𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 — celebrating the men and women who continue to serve as 𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 of our Constitution.

When I was a law student, my Constitutional Law professor, the late 𝗙𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘀, 𝗦.𝗝., made us 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 each and every Article of the Constitution.
And he would always began with the 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲:
“𝘞𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘰 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦, 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘭𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘺 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝙖 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙩𝙮… 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘢𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮, 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦…”
Now that I’m a lawyer — and a proud member of 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙖 — I find myself remembering Fr. Bernas’ lessons even more.
In his own words, “𝙣𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩” and that a Constitution is “𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙖 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙞𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨.”

“𝘞𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘰 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦, 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘭𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘺 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝙖 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙩𝙮… 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘢𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮, 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦…”
Now that I’m a lawyer — and a proud member of 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙖 — I find myself remembering Fr. Bernas’ lessons even more.
In his own words, “𝙣𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩” and that a Constitution is “𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙖 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙞𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨.”
Perhaps that is why, 𝟲𝟱 years later, 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙖’𝙨 work remains just as important: to 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 the Constitution, 𝘂𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 the rule of law, and 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 for every generation of Filipinos.

Happy 𝟲𝟱𝘁𝗵, 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙖!

Honored to be part of 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙖’𝙨 𝟲𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 — celebrating the men and women who continue to serve as 𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 of our Constitution.

I was both proud and happy — and honestly, a little 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 — to be at the formal launch of 𝗖𝗜𝗕𝗢 at 𝗡𝗔𝗜𝗔 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝟯.

Seeing 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗮’𝘀 vision and legacy live on through her son 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼 and his wife 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗮, together with 𝗔𝗻𝗮 and 𝗞𝗮𝗶 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗼, brought back so many wonderful memories.
It made me nostalgic… and yes, maybe just a 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 old too!
If you’re craving simple, honest Italian food made with lots of heart, drop by 𝗖𝗜𝗕𝗢.

Thank you, 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻 & 𝗖𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗲, for helping make this happen. What a lovely way to keep 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗮’𝘀 legacy going.

A little bit of this, a little bit of that …
and somehow another week flew by.
September 16 – 24, 2026

It was wonderful to see just how deeply our ties have grown — from security and economic cooperation to culture, friendships and the strong bonds between our people. And yes… even the 𝙪𝙗𝙚 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 in 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢!

Here’s to an even stronger friendship and many more shared opportunities ahead.

Had a meaningful side meeting with 𝗨.𝗦. 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻 and 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗟𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻 before the book launch.

We talked about how we can move “𝙁𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧” forward — and the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that this is something we 𝗔𝗟𝗟 need to get behind.
Our children are growing up in a digital world, and it is our responsibility to make that world 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 for them.
Cyberbullying, online harassment, misinformation, manipulation and unhealthy digital dependence should have 𝗻𝗼 place in a child’s life.
Government, parents, schools and communities — we all have a role to play. Let’s protect our children together.

Happy to join 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗽 and fellow 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 for the “𝙁𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧” luncheon.

No matter where we come from, we all share the 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 for our children — that they are given every opportunity to 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻, 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 and 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲, while staying 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 and 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 in an increasingly digital world.
Thank you, 𝗙𝗟𝗢𝗧𝗨𝗦, for bringing us together for a cause so close to 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁.

Here’s to building a safer, brighter and more 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 future for all children — especially our young Filipino youth who have fallen victims to all these 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘆 websites.
